Government Is Not Science

From Zero Hedge.

Science is glorious. But government is not science, and society cannot be managed scientifically from the center. Ludwig von Mises had a phrase he used to describe every attempt: “planned chaos.” There is a plan, and the experts are in charge with all resources and conviction. But the results are crazy, random, irrational, confusing, and chaotic.

It would be the greatest legacy of the Affordable Care Act if the government finally understands this message. Then we could get back to the old liberal conviction that individuals always and everywhere do a better job in managing their lives. Better than the government, anyway.

Central planning assumes that people are static. People are not static. Change the environment and people’s behavior changes. Business is always adapting because if they don’t they go broke. There is no such discipline enforced on government. At least until the ultimate break. War and/or revolution.

So how about WW2 and the Cold War? True our central planners were better than their central planners. That is no proof that central planning is a good thing. The UnAffordable Care Act – ObamaCare(less) – is proof of that. The incentives are perverse. One point – doctors are leaving the system just when more doctors are required.

The future is so bright I have to wear dark glasses. To avoid being identified by government security cameras.
