A real hero — against all odds

Here’s a man in San Francisco who behaved so heroically that I think the story deserves more media attention:

A man whose home in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood was invaded by three robbers early Tuesday managed to wrestle away one of the assailant’s guns and use it to critically wound him, police said.

The chaotic incident – which left the resident and his wife with bullet wounds as well – began about 2:30 a.m., when three men pried open the door of a home atop an automotive garage on Elmira Street near Industrial Street, said police Sgt. Dennis Toomer.

Inside the home were a 37-year-old man, his 31-year-old wife and their two children, police said. Neighbors said the couple have three children, including a newborn baby.

One of the robbers shot the man in the leg and the woman in the chest, police said, before the man was able to grab the gun.

It’s pretty gutsy to grapple a gun away from a trio of home invaders at that hour, and it renews my faith.

It’s also a excellent argument against gun control and for being armed. (It is better to have a gun in advance of an armed home invasion than to be forced to rely on the highly slim odds of being able to actually grab a gun away from the invaders.)

In San Francisco they want to disarm everyone, except the home invaders will pay about as much attention to such laws as homicidal maniacs like the guy who shot up the college in Santa Monica do.

But such logic is lost on the people who want us disarmed. The naifs who think gun control works probably also think that police will be able to protect people against home invaders at 2:30 a.m.

    Ammo clip linked to murder

    and the link?

In laying out more of the government’s case Thursday, McCauley said prosecutors believe that the murder weapon was a .45-caliber Glock and that a gun Hernandez is seen holding on his home surveillance video, a weapon they haven’t found, appears to be a Glock.

The prosecutor said that inside the Hummer investigators recovered an ammunition clip for .45-caliber bullets and that ammunition was found inside the condo. McCauley said a photograph had emerged online of Hernandez holding a Glock.

Hernandez may have done it. But the reported evidence is very slim.
