They Won’t Stand For It

The politics of abortion:

Politics: women tend to be on the left. Men on the right. Women are 51% of the population. Men 49%.

How do you think this issue will move the polity? And if it moves the polity in a direction where you can’t get what you want by politics maybe it might just be better to start without politics to begin with.

======

These questions were a lot easier when women were property. Any kind of government intervention in the question must move women back towards the status of property.

I don’t think they will stand for it.

    I may or may not agree, as I’m not sure exactly what you’re saying. It would be nice to rid the abortion issue of politics. But the language of rights in this country is inextricably linked with politics.

    We should try to infuse more credible scientific data, like what happens to a fetus at certain stages of development. However, since I am probably too pro-life for the pro-choice crowd, and too pro-choice for the pro-life crowd, it’s pretty easy for me to say this.

    Hypothetically, if say, science proved beyond a doubt that at (or immediately after) the moment of conception, fetuses have some form of sentience and consciousness, I don’t think you or much of the pro-choice side would budge. Then we’re all off to inserting more convoluted nuances as to what is entitled basic human rights.

    On the other hand, if it were proven that there is no sentience or consciousness until birth, I doubt the pro-life crowd would budge either.

    So we have to resort to idiotic appeals to religion or some fashion of competing/redefining human rights. Frankly you’re all (generally speaking) stupid. We’re not going to disentangle abortion from politics–that’s just wishful thinking.
