Misleading “milestone”

Yoko Ono recently tweeted the following image:

I realize that lefties love milestone type arguments, but I think it is highly manipulative to claim that guns killed the people who were clearly killed by human forces operating independently from whatever guns they used.

At the very least, shouldn’t it be acknowledged that at least “two-thirds of all gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides“? (76% according to this report.) Did the guns kill them, or did they kill themselves? If a suicide hangs himself, did the rope do it? Does the Golden Gate bridge kill people too?

So I thought it would be fair to correct the image on at least this one point.

Not a pleasant statistic, mind you. But it’s about as logically related to John Lennon’s bloodstained glasses as the other number.

Which is not at all.

UPDATE: Idiocy loves company. President Obama’s twitter account has retweeted Yoko Ono’s image.

Presumably, that means that unlike Bill Quick, the president agrees with such “logic.”

If you work in Prohibition related murders the thread becomes even more slender.

So, how many have died in car crashes, or bathroom falls?

I suspect repealing the drug laws would drop that “suicide by gun” and a lot of other suicide numbers considerably. Drug overdose deaths would probably rise but I strongly doubt by as much.

How many were killed by police and justified civilian self-defense?

(Not that the gun grabbers care)
