Jim Carrey apparently thinks we shouldn’t have guns, and is willing to use the power of his “pulpit” to say so.
Carrey performed double duty in the video, as both Heston and the twangy lead singer of the band performing the catchy “Cold Dead Hand.” (The title is an allusion to Heston’s rifle-toting 2000 NRA address, in which he referenced the famous slogan “I’ll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.”)
“Charlton Heston movies are no longer in demand, and his immortal soul may lay forever in the sand. The angels wouldn’t take him up to heaven like he planned, because they couldn’t pry the gun from his cold dead hand,” Carrey sings, with help from famous peace advocates Mahatma Gandhi, John Lennon and Abraham Lincoln — all peace promoters assassinated by gunmen.
The lyrics also hit male gun owners below the belt, suggesting that they are overcompensating for an anatomical deficiency:
“You’re a big, big man with a little bitty gland, so you need something bigger with a hairpin trigger.”
The “Bruce Almighty” star didn’t mince words when promoting the video Sunday. “‘Cold Dead Hand’ is abt u heartless motherf%**ers unwilling 2 bend 4 the safety of our kids,” he tweeted. “Sorry if you’re offended by the word safety!”
He’s a very talented man, no question about it. But does his performing talent give him any more authority than anyone else to attack the Second Amendment? I see no reason why. In fact, while I used to think he was a talented performer, I now think he is simply a performing asshole.
Not as original a one as he might think.
In fact, some talking assholes are more entertaining than others.
The thing is, even though I found him annoying, I used to enjoy Jim Carrey, because I thought that being annoying was part of his humor.
Now he’s simply annoying, which makes him about as entertaining as Michael Moore.

Shut up and act.
I have no desire to know his opinion, I mostly hope to not have to see any of his movies (except the Mask).
Did I ever tell you about the man who taught his asshole to talk?
Burroughs
Hah!

Overacting is no talent. The man is a cartoon.
Frankly, just another on the list of my “no watch, read or listen to list”. I’ve talked with other people who say they are able to ignore Hollywood/music industry freaks’ politics when they watch them at home on tv or in theaters or buy their albums but I don’t seem to have that ability. Just can’t stand the thought of my money going to support the asshats.
When I ask myself if my life is in anyway lessened by having missed the latest Sean Penn, Jim Carrey, etc. flick or by not listening to (insert musician’s name)’s music , the answer is simply no – we are just talking about entertainment after all.
Hey Eric, now that it has come out (actually quite a while ago) that Stephen Crowder was the one who first assaulted the union “thug” in Michigan, and not the other way around (he was just “standing his ground”) will there be any sort of acknowledgement of your error? I also hope you plan to let Ann and Glenn know too.
The “famous” have been letting their opinions be known since the dawn of time. In the hope that their fans will take on the cause. Futile hope, generally. And may it remain so.
Jim Carrey is a f***ing Canadian leftist.
And Aj, what Crowder supposedly did in Lansing- is highly suspect.Namely, the narrative where Crowder supposedly “assaulted” the Union thug, is laughable at best.
Upfront: I’m not a US citizen so you might think me out of order here.
But seriously, why do all these assholes not start a campaign to get the second amendment annulled or repealed or whatever your word is? There is, after all, a legal, constitutional process for doing this, and nobody could argue with it if they were successful. So why not?
I think we all know why not: it’s because they are pretty sure they would lose, so they’d rather try to impose their views extra-legally because, like, they are just superior people who know better. Because they just do.
Assholes, as I said.
Daniel,
the narrative was that Crowder was assaulted out of the blue thanks to edited footage (the unedited footage was accidently shown by Fox News once, after which they went back to the edited footage) and the projection was that the man in the video was a “thug.”
This isn’t the first time Brietbart Co has produced a video out of context and the usual suspects of idiots jump on the “thug” bandwagon. Why is it so hard for guys on the right to ever admit they made a mistake? I’m not even asking for taking responsibility for the mistake, how about acknowledgement?
