Britain Devastated By Global Warming

Worst March snow for 30 years brings chaos.

A severe weather alert was issued for large parts of the country hit by icy conditions, heavy snow and winds of up to 60mph. North-west England, south-west Scotland and Northern Ireland were worst-affected.

From 2000:

Britain’s winter ends tomorrow with further indications of a striking environmental change: snow is starting to disappear from our lives.

Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain’s culture, as warmer winters – which scientists are attributing to global climate change – produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries.

Well they got a late March snow this year. A few days past the official start of spring. Where I live the day time temperatures are 15°F below normal. I’m hoping for more or less global warming more or less. What ever will warm things up.

I’m up to my neck in Global Warming here in sub-tropical Michigan! “Spring” this year means temperatures in the teens, with the wind chill factor lower than that, and of course SNOW.

I’m expecting alligators and tropical pythons to work their way up here from Florida very soon!

No amount of evidence will convince the warmists otherwise. Gorbal Worming is an unfalsifiable hypothesis. If it gets warmer it’s gorbal worming. If it gets colder it’s gorbal worming.

Example: I remember we had an unusually warm winter one year in Boston. Which was of course caused by…

    The next winter was unusually
cold and snowy. I was told this was ALSO caused by global warming. That and some articles in Reason convinced me the whole thing is a crock.

I think there’s a grand unified theory of leftism that explains environmentalism, and much else.

The goal is socialism by any means necessary. After all, the ends justify the means (and the means justify the ends) Back in the good old days socialism was claimed to
be better than capitalism. More steel. Bigger factories. Higher production. A car in every pot and two chickens in every garage. What has been painfully proven over and over is that socialism delivers the exact opposite. Mass poverty and misery. And what do greenies want, ultimately? Poverty and misery.

Presented with overwhelming evidence they didn’t give up on socialism, they gave up on wealth. For us, anyway.

Gotta love impeccable right wing logic. Its cold today so global warming doesn’t exist.

    AJ,

Well it is IPCC logic actually. Seventeen years without a significant rise in temps calls into question AGW. According to the climate scientists.

No. AJ it isn’t right wing logic. It is climate science logic.

    Now AJ,

Had you actually studied the science you would know all this.

What is it with you left wingers that you don’t actually study the science? Anti-science or something.

    The AJ,

You’re correct that anecdotes prove nothing. If you want to test the hypothesis you have to do more than look out your own window. Temperature trends must be studied over long time frames and across the globe.

Unfortunately for the alarmist side, the data don’t support their interpretation. A better interpretation is this: temperature goes up and it goes down all the time, without interference from humans. It always has it and it always will. The temperatures we are seeing now are not outside the range of “noramL’ temperatures.

The story from Britain, while itself an anecdote to be wary of, is more emblematic of alarmist hysteria and media hypocrisy. If, in 2000, the lack of snow meant something, why doesn’t it mean anything thirteen years later? Snowy winters now PROVE global warming? I thought they were supposed to disappear in coming years!

    Simen:

    1. Atmospheric temperature, not surface temperature.

2nd link didn’t even provide the full quote that was supposedly made.

    Joey:
Probably the first comment I’ve seen on this site from a right-winger that didn’t immediately jump into idiotic irrationality. I agree, the hysteria is bullshit and does not resolve the problem. I agree, anecdotal evidence is stupid in either direction.

A better interpretation is this: temperature goes up and it goes down all the time, without interference from humans. It always has it and it always will. That is one interpretation but not necessarily the best, and certainly not the consensus.

But you guys will need to pick one story and stick with it. Just above you there is the claim that there has been no warming, and then you make the claim that the warming is natural, cyclical and not impacted by human activity.

    Well AJ,

You are aware that consensus means nothing in science.

You are also aware that it was pretty well agreed on the warmist side that 15 years of flat temperature was outside the 95% confidence interval. It is now 17 years according to the head of the IPCC. And the trend for the last 4 or 5 years has been slightly negative. With increasing CO2. And the longer the negative trend continues the more years that are added to the flatline – beginning and end.

You know – it is quite possible that CO2 does not drive climate. Despite the “consensus”. It won’t be the first time in science that the consensus was wrong.

And my little post was more about humor than science. Just poking a little fun at the believers in consensus.

BTW if you have followed climate scares for the last 120 or so years you will find that cooling scares alternate with warming scares. This current warming scare has about played out.

But you guys will need to pick one story and stick with it. Just above you there is the claim that there has been no warming, – For 17 years according to the head of the IPCC.

And cooling and warming can alternate in a cyclic system. So I see no need to pick one or the other.

The only solid trend is the rebound from the LIA.

Well, lookey here, somebody went and calculated how much CO2 contributes to warming.

(hmmm… log CO2 concentration??? Can’t have none of that, bring out the positive feedback)

There has been warming, although there is always the question of baseline. In other words, warming since when?

Temperature goes up and down naturally. There was a slight upswing between the 1970’s and the late 1990’s, which made people worry that it would continue indefinitely. It didn’t. We’re now experiencing a “pause” in global warming, which assumes that it will start again. It likely will, since, as I said, temperatures go up and down all the time.

I’m sticking with one theory. Temperatures rose for a while, sure. But the explanation is much less sinister.
