Torture For Fun And Profit

I was discussing how America was assisting one drug cartel in Mexico in its war against the other major Mexican cartel. Commenter John Thomas, who is well aware that about 70% of female heroin users were sexually abused in childhood, had this to say about that (emph added):

I can understand how many would not want to pull the plug on the bogus drug war, since it would be a dangerous shock to our economy. But I say go ahead and do it. What good is all our wealth (a big collective “our” there) if it is built on the continued suffering of millions of innocent people? I’d prefer to collapse back into the stone age and have a clear conscience.

My sentiments exactly. What good is all our wealth if we have to sell our souls to get it?

Funny, the commielibs also don’t care if society is destroyed because it’s not giving everything to everybody like they think it should, or someone is sabotaging Dear Leader’s Five Year Plan.

“It’s not perfect, so it’s no damn good” I suppose.

The drug users are busy giving over vast amounts of money to head-chopping cartels, but it makes them feel good so it must be the fault of the people that don’t want to give money to the head-chopping cartels.

I understand arsonists fell better after starting a fire. I suspect their belief is that only the unfair criminalization of arson is the cause of their problems. Surely if we make it easier for them to set their fires our country will be better.

I suppose the Libertarians are in some ways like the immoral pacifists. Their response to reality is to claim if we had adopted their plan far enough back in the past we wouldn’t have the big problem they have no solution for today.

After Sept 11 pacifists had no real response, they just claimed that if they had been able to implement pacifism thoroughly enough they would never had been faced with murderous thugs trying to destroy buildings. We just need the time machine they depend on to make their plan work. If legalization happend today, the cartels still have their wealth and guns and addicts still have destroyed lives.

How exactly is giving your money to the drug cartels not funding their reign of terror? How is this such a big blind spot for the personal responsibility crowd?

    Scott,

It is you who are destroying society by making what was once legal illegal.

Prohibition of Drugs and Alcohol was a Progressive idea opposed by the Republicans of 1914.

I had no idea you were a Progressive.

    My condolences.

    And Scott,

If you favor Prohibition shouldn’t you be doing something about YOUR Government giving assistance to a Drug Cartel? Doesn’t that defeat your purpose?

    In addition Scott,

Shouldn’t you be doing something about the banks who are laundering all that Drug Money?

And yes – giving the cartels money is a bad thing. If only it was legal to grow your own that would stop relatively quickly. You do favor growing your own don’t you? Or do you believe you can actually make plants illegal? Cannabis plants have been illegal since 1937. And yet they are still around. How did that happen?
