The enda the killer 6-pack?

In yesterday’s news, Paul Ryan has created divisions among Log Cabin Republicans:

Since his pick as Mitt Romney’s running mate, Paul Ryan has not spoken about his position on gay rights. But the Log Cabin Republicans, one of just two conservative gay rights groups in the country, has pointed to him as a model for how to reach gay voters.

In an opinion piece in the Daily Caller, the group’s executive director, R. Clarke Cooper, celebrated Ryan’s “economic vision,” alongside his 2007 vote in favor of the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA), a law that would make it illegal for employers to discriminate based on sexual orientation.

Back in the 1990s, Romney supported ENDA as well. In a letter to the Log Cabin Republicans he pledged to co-sponsor the legislation at the federal level, but in 2006, he said he had reversed his position on the bill.

“Romney should take a page from his running mate’s playbook and support stronger workplace nondiscrimination laws,” Cooper wrote.

Anyone OK with that? Or must we have a Special Judgment Committee? I’m not sure Ryan seems the same now as he seemed in his current incarnation, but I don’t see why I should worry about such ultimately irrelevant distractions. Like it or not, the man is a politician. And unless I am wrong, he was made to throw Ayn Rand under the bus, so similar thought processes may make him throw gay conservatives under the bus too. Which means that unless my math is off, gay conservatism may become the immoral equivalent of Ayn Rand (on the right, to match up neatly with their rejection on the socon right).

A calculated risk, maybe (because the issue may resonate with non-gay independents), but not all that important if we consider the very limited federal powers spelled out in the Constitution.

None of these social things (which are opinions) ought to matter at the federal level, but they sure as hell seem to matter to the demagogues who claim they know what’s important to the voters.

And in today’s news, what said to matter is the size of Ryan’s pecs:

…sources close to Paul’s abs tell us Ryan has totally transformed his midsection in the past couple of years … and now he’s totally shredded with a killer 6-pack.

Huh? Is that anti-gay, pro-gay, or anti-Ryan-ABS?

Inquiring minds would seem to want to know, but am I supposed to care?

Can I be allowed to think what I think?
(Sorry for the rhetorical question.)

“Can I be allowed to think what I think?”

Of course not. How DARE you! That might lead to (heaven/hell/Marx) forbid…independent thought.

And that…that…might CHANGE things. So, you go right back to thinking what they want you to think. Sheesh – you might get the idea you are a real person rather than a statistic. And that is dangerous.
