Box Tail

You can read more about it here.

Synergy doesn’t just look amazing, it truly is amazing; the first systematic application of six proven breakthroughs for major drag reduction. These principles haven’t been put together in a form simple enough to deliver their liberating potential… until now.

Designed to show ten times the fuel economy of a small jet at ten percent of the cost, Synergy not only offers fast, fun transportation (in comfort above the weather) but also greater range and the ability to land at safer, slower speeds on local airfields. In its category it is widely considered the most promising aircraft design yet seen.

What we’re doing:

We’re building the real thing, using the lifetime craftsmanship of three generations of the McGinnis family, CNC machines, carbon fiber composites, volunteers from all over the world, and powerful engineering software. Team leader John McGinnis is a senior member of the AIAA and a recognized aircraft designer among the EAA. This roomy five-seat prototype will join the amazing 25% scale prototype already flying.

I know how they feel about budgets (see about 1:40 into the video). They are tough. In that vein my mom (age 92) reported to me today that she got my flashlight prototype in the mail. I asked her if she turned it on and she said no. She said it was so light (even with the way oversized case I built the prototype in) that she was sure there was no battery in it. In fact I shipped it with a battery. She had some shots in her eyes so later this evening she is going to turn it on and report back to me. If it didn’t get damaged in shipping (not likely but it happens) I look forward to reporting the results here.

A number of you have stated you would like to help get the light into production but that you didn’t have enough money to help me get the tooling (injection molding or CNC machined aluminum) I need for a small case. I have decided that I will sell the current model of the prototype for $100 each (shipping costs a fortune because of the packing and box size required) and what with curing the RTV that holds the LED to the reflector for 3 days I can still make enough from that to build and test some more prototypes and do some other kinds of simple testing (accurate battery life) that needs to be done.

So if any of you still want to help I’m selling numbered, dated, and signed (with an engraving pencil) lights for $100 each. If you would care to kick in a little extra to help the work go faster it would be appreciated.

My e-mail is on the sidebar at Space-Time Productions. You can also make donations there of any amount and if you want a flashlight so indicate when you make a donation.

Let me add something from the Synergy www site linked above:

By backing Synergy through its most vulnerable phase, you’re filling the gap between concept and reality that has kept basic aircraft design stagnant for a lifetime. Every donation counts, and every recommendation to others counts even more!!!

The same holds for Bringing A Little Light To The World™. In addition if you get a prototype you must promise not to reveal any design details until I make a public announcement of them. I want to protect the design as much as possible until I go into production.
