Progressives

With the law and men with guns we can perfect the world.

You will note that I’m referring to most of my allies and all of my enemies. The difference between my allies and my enemies? Different laws.

    And different philosophies.

Keep in mind, their philosophy isn’t really wrong…it just doesn’t work well with human beings. Ants and bees do quite nicely with it.

    Kathy,

My point is that the philosophies of my allies (most of them anyway) and enemies are the same.

What we need are philosophies that acknowledge the following:

There’s no closed-form solution for polynomial equations of degree five or higher.

In a closed system you will run out of usable energy eventually.

You can’t know exactly both where the subatomic particle is and which way it’s going.

The speed of light; it’s not just a good idea–it’s the law.

You can’t prove every true proposition in consistent deductive systems sufficient to deal with the counting numbers.

You can’t come up with a way to tell whether an arbitrary computer program will always halt.

In business the limits of knowledge are acknowledged (interesting word) in the current model by pushing decisions down to the lowest level. Trust the worker who is doing the work.

We used to have a political system based on the same understanding (designed in 1790 before business even had a clue for God’s sake). Let the individual make as many of her own decisions as possible. And more is possible than most of our current crop of politicians are willing to acknowledge.
