I’m so sorry to see that Dick Clark died. The man was a giant as well as a family friend. I grew up in Philadelphia and I was thrilled to meet him when I was a kid and he was doing the American Bandstand thing. Some of my fondest memories are from when I was a kid watching that show.
This one is one of my favorites, and it typifies that period.

Completely aside from his career, his personal courage and determination in bouncing back after that horrible massive stroke, learning how to talk again with incredible difficulty — despite the fact that it was thought medically impossible and even said to be “inappropriate” — makes him a personal inspiration.
I’d say they don’t make men like that anymore, except they never really did.
He’ll be sorely missed, especially by me.

Rock on.
“He’ll be sorely missed, especially by me.”
And me. And almost anyone else old enough to remember.
@Will, yeah. We thought he’d never grow old. And hoped we wouldn’t either.
Well, no harm in dreaming…
A friend of my sister once got very excited because a cousin of hers was going to be on American Bandstand.
That was very good Doo-Wop.
