I think there is a very good lesson here. I’m working with a bunch of Old Farts on a project. Silver Ponytails in fact (the guy on the left without any hair is my best buddy on the project. He is a gun enthusiast.). My function is loose collaborator. We all do our business as if any one could drop out of the loop in an instant. It keeps you straight to have death as a close companion.

Indeed it does, and far more people should do their business that way. Because anyone COULD drop out of the loop in an instant. (Even if death isn’t involved, I’ve seen companies seriously strangled even by temporary absences due to other unforeseen emergencies.)
