Watch each card you play and play it slow

I agree with Condoleezza Rice that it isn’t a good idea to play the race card. The race card sucks, whether it is played by Obama and the Democrats or by Cain and the Republicans. I may be naive, but I don’t want a president whose race matters.

IMO, the best argument against Herman Cain is the argument WorldnetDaily made in favor of him in this uncharacteristically disappearing post. I don’t want a president because he is a “positive role model…to young, disaffected black males who find themselves disproportionately imprisoned – imprisoned both for actual crimes and metaphorically captives as a result of being denied family structure, fatherly religious and moral values and real hope and inspiration.” The role model stuff may be to the good, but it is no reason to elect anyone president. Unless the presidency is to become a race-based office.

However, I am worried that the more Newt Gingrich sits there holding himself out as an elder statesman (the “peacemaker,” even), the more likely it is that people will start seeing him that way, especially if he keeps gently chiding the rest of the candidates for criticizing each other while occupying a sanctimonious (if carefully staked out) “voice of wisdom” posture.

Hence, I am hesitant to criticize any GOP candidate whose name is not New Gingrich, lest I help Newt Gingrich. The guy is positioning himself to come out on top, and I hate seeing it happen, and be unable to do anything about it.

When the rest of the anti-Romneys have destroyed each other, Newt will be the anti-Romney by default. Not because he’s an anti-Romney, but because he is not Romney.

Is there any way to avert disaster?

I mean seriously, if it’s either play the race card or go with Gingrich I’m almost sick enough to play it.

If the deck is stacked, is it wrong to cheat?
