Freedom In The World

A nice summary from Steve Chapman, but a bit pessimistic. An optimist might have noted the world has never been more free, and posited the notion that further movement is perhaps slow because there’s no more low-hanging fruit — the remaining unfree societies of 2010 have significant pathologies. And while there wasn’t a whole lot of movement towards political freedom, economic liberalization did see significant progress, which probably matters just as much in the long run.

The new MT seems to have a bit of an issue, btw. Sometimes it pops up a different, simpler editor and then refuses to publish anything you enter into that editor. This happens in both FF and IE, though it may be a consequence of how I navigated.

I don’t know if this will help, but you can switch the Format in the upper right box (just under the Entry Title), between None and Rich Text.

The problem seems to be that it doesn’t load all the GUI widgets for the new editor, and doesn’t accept the input without them. I think I just have to navigate a bit differently.
From a technical perspective, they appear to use competing Java classes. My wife knows Java a bit better than me, maybe I’ll ask her.

I found out why it does this: if you used www the first time, you have to always use www or it won’t load the editor, and same if you didn’t use www.
