Via Ann Althouse, a writer who takes himself far too seriously lays viciously into her, then indicts bloggers in general:
We who labor at turning dead trees into public knowledge feel some obligation to make the sacrifice of the atmosphere-cleansing, oxygen-producing creatures worthwhile. It’s possible that the theoretical infinity of cyberspace encourages throwing whatever is lying around into the void. It achieves nothing. It is simply wasting time by people who have time to waste.
Well, sometimes I do feel as if I am wasting my time, but reading a remark like that makes this process feel quite worthwhile. This man — this Vince O’Hern — has shown himself to be such a horse’s ass and such a supreme prick that he has now earned a post from me by way of condemnation. (Something that isn’t easy, as I hate wasting the infinite voidness on people like him.)
Of course, if he’s right, then condemning him is probably as much a waste of time as reading him or the silly “newspaper” he writes for (which he thinks turns dead trees into knowledge). I’d never heard of Isthmus before, but Althouse bashing is definitely their current shtick; I went to the home page only to confirm that they are online (and thus doing what O’Hern condemns as “throwing whatever is lying around into the void”) and found myself drawn right into their time-wasting, nothing-achieving, void.
Right on the front page — just begging to be linked by the bloggers of the leftie void — is a long, vicious attack on Althouse. It’s over 3200 words long, and the writer actually calls Althouse obsessive.
She has a bizarre obsession with men in shorts.
I think her interest in the subject is cute, and anyone who thinks it is a “bizarre obsession” has absolutely no sense of humor. And they probably haven’t seen John Edwards in his cute shorts, but that’s getting off topic and I wouldn’t want anything I once threw out into the void to become public knowledge.
Sheesh. I realize that some lefties can’t stand Ann Althouse, but are these people for real?

I’ll home in on the *important* point of this — what’s wrong with men in shorts? I like men in shorts, at least if they have the legs to support it. (of course, men in shorts who have no legs is a completely different obsession and yes, I realize by the wonders of rule 34, I just created several fetish sites.) Next they’re going to be upset over women liking men in kilts. Is this an anti-male-leg society? 🙂

AA is a blog that formerly interested me greatly. But during the ’08 presidential campaign I found her to be simply a classical feminist , who sees no problem replacing a husband/father/man/provider/companion with the Federal Gov.
I also believe she follows the sports talk radio format of fomenting dissenting POV’s to drive traffic.

Althouse lost me with a combination of things.
First, refusing to admit she wanted to be had and Obama hasn’t changed, she just didn’t see what all the stupid haters like that snowbilly breeder from Alaska saw.
The last straw was actually silly, she wrote about some number in the trillions and said that anybody who claimed to be able to comprehend that number was stupid.
When non math people start to talk authoritatively about math it’s usually funny but makes me lose lots of respect for them.
So the combination of refusing to be self-aware while proudly proclaiming her ignorance as she calls more intelligent people ‘stupid’ made me lose all respect for her.
If I think you’re a a fool, I avoid your blog. I’ve stopped reading a bunch of blogs over the years when I decided the blogger wasn’t worth it (Consider that a warning Eric, don’t mess with me or I will take my clicks and go elsewhere).
Life is too short to waste your time with fools. I learned that at a very young age.
As for why she’s so hated by the left, it’s because she’s a lefty who refuses to always toe the line.
She’s a woman living and teaching in Madison, she’s supposed to always believe whatever the left wants her to believe and she refuses to do so.
She’s being treated the way conservative blacks are treated.
You need to stay on the plantation whether you’re a certain minority (Cubans need not apply) or a woman.
An apostate is far worse to religious than a non-believer.
I like her content, her humor, her insights into things, and her refusal to conform for the sake of conformity. I don’t especially care about whether I agree with people as long as they can explain why they think what they think and don’t hurl slogans. Unfortunately, in blogging, there’s a constant demand for content, and nobody who is a daily blogger can possibly bat a thousand.
But how I wish I’d had the strategic blogger foresight to vote for Obama! In that respect I envy Ann Althouse, because Obama critics who voted for him are considered far less boring than Obama critics who have been against him from the start. I can’t say I’ve been betrayed; all I can do is say “I told you so.” Which means that in terms of politics, I was no fool; but in terms of making this blog marketable, I was.
In the end, this is all about entertainment. And what could be more foolish than that?

I don’t have to agree with you to read your blog, I just have to respect you and trust you.
I disagreed with her as often as I agreed with her, but I respected her.
I lost respect for her.
The reason I left the other blogs was because they reacted poorly when I disagreed with them, not because I disagreed with them.
