“he figured he could get away with it”

How stupid does President Obama think the unruly teenagers American people are?
That was my reaction when I saw this question:

Why did the president feign ignorance of ACORN when his relationship with the group goes back almost 20 years?

Glenn Reynolds offers an answer:

Because he figured he could get away with it. Same reason politicians do most things . . . .

And that begs another question.
What would make him think he could get away with it?
Does he think people didn’t know? I realize this blog does not represent the sum total of what is known by American voters, but I thought I’d use it as a starting point of reference, and check to how many posts there were here about Obama and ACORN before the election. I just counted and there were twenty nine posts.
Obama’s documented connections with ACORN are so far beyond dispute as to be an absolute no-brainer. It goes to the man’s very essence — even to the very definition of “community organizer” — which is what he said he was, for God’s sake. Think Barack Obama and think Community Organizer. Think Community Organizer and think ACORN. There is nothing controversial or dispute-worthy about this. Obama and ACORN go together in the same way that Al Gore and Global Warming go together. Some associations are so close as to be almost defining.
For the president to feign ignorance of ACORN is so dishonest as to be an act of jaw-dropping shamelessness. I think it’s a new low.
It’s as if Andrew Sullivan were to feign ignorance of the gay marriage issue.
It’s almost comical, except I don’t think the president was joking.
Of course, perhaps he thinks that what worked with Bill Ayers will work with ACORN.
Hmmm….Considering that fifty one posts were written here about Obama’s connections with Bill Ayers, he obviously didn’t get away with it here.
I guess it all depends on what getting away with it means.
UPDATE: My thanks to Glenn Reynolds for the link, and a warm welcome to all.
Comments welcome, agree or disagree.
But really now — did I actually mean to compare gay marriage to global warming? Honestly, I never thought about that before, but if readers insist, I’ll take it under advisement.
I’m thinking maybe I should have said, “It’s as if WorldNetDaily were to feign ignorance of the Obama Birth Certificate issue.”
MORE (later that same morning): OK….here’s my forced comparison between gay marriage and Global Warming that nearly everyone has been waiting for.
Neither threatens Western Civilization. But excitable people like to claim they do!

“What would make him think he could get away with it?”
Because he knew that the mainstream news media would help him.

It’s like Dick Cheney saying he knows nothing about Satan!
You have to understand, you’re not his target audience.
He’s just making sure that Minitru ignores his connections to Acorn.
He was telling them, “No Acorn questions”.
And that way, all the people who get their information from Minitru will never know exactly how shameless that was or why the teabaggers are all upset.

“These aren’t the community organizers you’re looking for…”
He thinks he can get away with it because he keeps getting away with it. He ran the entire campaign pretending he had nothing to do with Wright, Ayers and Dohrn, Pfleger, Rezko… and he’s surrounded by syncophants and toadies and a submissive media that continues to assure him that he can get away with it.
And you know what? Bring it up and you’re immediately swamped, if they pay any attention to you at all, with accusations of racism. You just can’t stand the idea that the President is black. No matter how many ordinary Americans, many of which actually voted for Obama last year protest this breakneck dash into socialism and constant criminal activity, he and his insulating clique will stonewall with the same old charges of racism, Nazism, un-Americanism, teabagging, bitter gun clinging.
If you pretend any of this has any meaning at all other than Republicans are evil, you are the enemy. You and Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin and O’Keefe and Giles and the rest of those subversive alien malcontents.
It isn’t our country any more. At least not so long as we permit Obama to get away with it.

The same reason the he could spend 20 years at “Rev” Wright’s church and not know Wright was a loon (and I don’t mean Canadian).
The Truth is whatever Obama says today. It may be different tomorrow, so try to pay attention.

    From Wiki:
The Big Lie (German: Gro?e L?ge) is a propaganda technique. The expression was coined by Adolf Hitler in his 1925 autobiography Mein Kampf for a lie so “colossal” that no one would believe that someone “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously”.

He WILL get away with it with most of the media, and unfortunately, most of the public. They take everything he says at face value, even when it is patently untrue.

The man has a very basic, deep, visceral contempt for Everyone Who’s Not Obama. My Chicago friends tell me he’s convinced you CAN fool all the people all the time, as long as you first tell them what they want to hear, or give them something they want.
Look at the people with whom he becomes friends. They’re all very intelligent – but, as importantly, they’re all natural operators, they’re all borderline con men, they’re all convinced that they are truly Masters of the Universe, and we are simply their staff.
Given how many otherwise intelligent people he convinced to vote for him in the face of no qualification, record, credibility, or personal warmth, it’s possible it’s not ALL delusion, I suppose.

Well, to be fair, there are some younger ones, too.
The scarier thought: the masses have been accepting the politicians’ BS since the Roman Senate.

    1) It’s very important to understand that Obama didn’t consciously think about this — it just comes naturally to him, largely because of his experience. Think about it. Here’s a guy with no new ideas, who promotes warmed over socialism, who got elected President of the United States by a comfortable margin. No wonder he thinks he has Godlike powers.
    2) It should be clear to everyone that he *can* get away with it, unless those opposed to his intentions argue forcefully against them. Every once in a while, the American people get incensed enough about the direction of politics that they actually pay attention. This happened in 1980, and again in 1994. It also lasted no more than a year in each case — the people just don’t want to be bothered with thinking and talking about it, because a lot of the time, their Constitutional rights survive everything that the haters of freedom can throw at them.
    3) The thing is, the only requirement to bring this whole fascist agenda to a complete halt is for people to think and talk about it. The tea parties may help, but not because of anything that they do, rather merely because they exist. It’s simply not necessary for the bulk of the people to participate in political activism. All they have to do is go out and vote, usually against incumbents. A lot of people can’t be bothered with even such a small demand.
    4) It’s very important to demonstrate the power of the ballot box now, in the year 2009. This election doesn’t involve every part of the country, but it should be clear by now that the one thing that professional politicians fear above all else is that they won’t get reelected — they may otherwise be mentally deficient, but they know exactly what is at stake here, and they will (rightly) assume that if the people can’t get rid of them this year, they won’t be able to in future years. Stop all the moaning about term limits — you can limit someone’s term easily enough by preventing his reelection. There are gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia. If the citizens of those states care as much as the rest of the country, they will take the small trouble to throw a big scare into Congress, by electing Governors who stand for something other than political business as usual. If the voters in these states fail to do so, they will rightly have earned the odium of the rest of the citizenry. There are probably many dozens of other elections in other places, all of which bear watching. A couple in particular: New York City gets to elect a mayor — it would be nice (even if it means voting for a Democrat) to bring an end to Bloomberg’s desire to be mayor for life; Massachusetts gets to vote for a replacement for Ted Kennedy — yes, despite what you may have read in the media, the election is still on, and the obscene maneuvering by the Legislature and Governor to change the rules doesn’t in fact amount to a hill of beans — so the occasionally sensible citizenry of Massachusetts could do us all a favor by defeating the candidate of the media, whoever that might be, but usually a Democrat. Please don’t throw your vote to some meaningless third party candidate — now is not the time.

Given the breathtaking ignorance of the Obama voters, add in a generous dollop of media shielding… I’d say yes, he can get away with it.

What did the haughty, cute left say during the campaign in response to GOVERNOR PALIN pointing out Obama’s only job experience was ACORN community organizer ? What was it? OH YES!
“Jesus was a Community Organizer, Pontius Pilate was a Governor”,
Hmmm. I don’t think Jesus would be an ACORN community organizer in favor of underage sex slave smuggling. It’s just a guess.

I like the way you compare Andrew Sullivan’s championing of gay marriage with other unseemly leftist causes, like Al Gore & Global Warming. And linking Obama & Acorn, or Obama & Bill Ayres that old domestic terrorist, well…the disgusting parallels to Andrew Sullivan’s support of gay marriage are obvious.
You open up a whole new avenue for libertarian thought. Out with Vice President Chaney’s secular “freedom for all” – much too libertine and divisive.
Anyway, he probably only said that so he can get along with his dyke daughter and her lesbo wife.

Don’t bullshit us, Eric, since you’re known to be in the pocket of Big Gay. It’s clear to all that you’re attempting to obfuscate the scientific fact that gay marriage causes global warming. The combination of all that leather, Judy Garland, and Bette Midler has a synergistic effect.
The science is settled, the debate is over. I have actual scientific proof hidden away, which you cannot examine because you’ll only try to pick holes in it.
My only question is, who’s bankrolling you? Astroglide, or Playgirl?
