Fusion Pioneer Says: Drill Now

Fusion energy pioneer Robert Hirsch says in a CNBC interview that the US must drill for oil. And use all its available resources to help us get over the current liquid fuels hump. I’m inclined to agree. No Blood For Oil or No Drilling For Oil? Good question.

Yes, drill now. As the US is a mature oil province, and there are likely no onshore elephants to be discovered, the results will be minimal. 1) But at least that $ from buying domestic production will be going to Americans, and not to Wahabis or to Hugo. 2) Drilling will be cheaper. The success rate for wildcats 25 years ago was about 1 in 5. Today it is about 4 in 5, due to better technology, especially in computer imaging.
There is a LOT we can to do re wind energy, with two provisos. 1) As the wind tunnel of the Great Plains is far away from major population centers, there will have to be a lot of $ invested in transmission lines. 2) As wind energy is irregular, it will have to be used in conjunction with conventional electrical sources- or develop better energy storage technology to smooth out the irregularity of wind energy.

And continue to invest in fusion research, also.
There will not be one magic bullet.
