Is that Natalie Merchant? I heard this version on the radio several years ago and retched. Having been raised in NYC’s lower east side and enjoying all the great 70’s bands, of which Patti was the queen, I despised the newer version. What’s the point of doing a cover if you don’t put your own spin on it (think Jose Feliciano and “Light My Fire”). This sounds like Patti on sedatives. Stick with the original.
Yes it is Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Manics. I rather liked this version esp. the orchestration.
Of course I figured some might not agree so I included a link to Patti Smith.
I do think it is one of Natalie’s best works.
But you know there is no point in disputing matters of taste.

BTW I have always been partial to the electric violin. It goes real well with a harmonica. The mixture of harmonics is electrifying.
I had a friend who I practiced with in the 70s (me on harmonica – Marine Band Key of C is my favorite) and was greatly disappointed when he moved away.
