I suppose it's too banal to say that -given Middle East economies- Muslims who become trained engineers have very nearly zero opportunities to gain a livelihood. Hence they are driven to desperation.
A similar phenomenon was seen in the ranks of the Nazi party. There were more than a few college educated degree-holders in there; William Shirer called them "intellectual gangsters."
