Rush is on fire. Listen. I will update this later.

I liked it later in the program when Rush put on two seminar callers(the Obama people get their Obots to work fast) and blasted the hell out of them when they tried to set conditions for the debate. Of course the One won't go for the kind of unstructured talkfest that Rush revels in. He's useless without that teleprompter.

I listened to it live this AM. Fine. But did you hear the call in just afterword? The man who fawned and groveled over being able to talk to Mr. Dittohead himself?
Poor guy. But Rush's response was so -- self-congratulatory, so -- filled with self-importance, so -- "Oh, if only I could lick myself all over" TOTALLY SICKENING!
The Democrats are setting Limbaugh up as their straw man leader of the Republican Party. Anything to divert us from the real work they're carrying on remaking our country into a people's state.

Ask yourself: Why would they want to focus on a conservative talk show entertainer who has about as much charisma with the majority of Americans as a slimy, unctuous undertaker?

Frank,

I'm not a big Rush fan. And yes his patting himself on the back with two hands and both feet is not very entertaining to me.

But he does get in a good point from time to time and occasionally I am amused.

And why is Obama going after Rush? The same reason Clinton did. A lot of people don't like his style (as noted above). However, Obama is uniquely stupid. Destroying a communication channel (talk radio) will not make the audience for talk radio go away. It will just send them out to other venues. Like the internet where the communication is more two way.

I believe you have missed the Democrats' current strategy on this entirely. The Obama administration does not want to "destroy" Rush Limbaugh as a communication channel--they want to emphasize the role that Rush plays within the Repulican party.

It cannot really be argued that Limbaugh is the de facto head of the Republican party, for good or ill. The head of the RNC had to call to apologize to him less than an hour after making critical remarks--and I do not think you can find one national Republican figure that can/will publicly criticize him about anything at all.

The point is, Republicans have made their own bed by elevating Limbaugh to this position. They chose to make a wildly unpopular (within the general public) clown their leader. Now they have to either deal with those consequences or pick another leader.

As a long-time admirer of circular firing squads, it is nice to see Republicans loading up their rifles.

I don't think that Limbaugh is a straw man leader of the Republicans--he is actually their leader.

Can you name one national Republican figure that would have the guts to offer even mild criticism of Limbaugh at this point? When the head of the RNC has to kowtow before Limbaugh for making comments that Limbaugh doesn't like, and when congressman have to grovel on his show to apologize for suggesting that Limbaugh might not be interested in constructive solutions, that's pretty strong evidence that Limbaugh is, in fact, the leader of the Republican party.

John McCain.
The Republican pols who are defending Limbaugh are just circling the wagons. Their party is right now without a real standard bearer, or a viably consistent message.
Emmanuel knows this and is having fun with his political opponents. He's every bit the asshole that Karl Rove is, and then some.
The Democrats would love to have a farcical, rotund blowhard leading the opposition.
Or have the Republicans attack each other and implode. Either way, they win.

Frank   ·  March 5, 2009 10:42 PM

Frank,

The Democrats are most fortunate to have Jimmy Carter II as their standard bearer.

Under the circumstances it may be best that no Republican leader has emerged. Let the Democrats work on each other for a while.

"The Obama administration does not want to "destroy" Rush Limbaugh as a communication channel--they want to emphasize the role that Rush plays within the Repulican party. "
They want to do both.
They want to set up limbaugh as the "leader" so they can make all Republicans look like angry mean pundits.

But remember they also want to revive the fairness doctrine to silence his show. They are fine if he only appears on crosstalk vs someone else as an "equal voice" but seriously must kill his show, he is too influential and too smart.

I don't like his style either. (I think the patting himself on the back is sarcasm, but honestly can't tell), but I like his style better than the O'Reillys, hannitys, olbermans, all the others that I lump in together. He is certainly a hell of a lot smarter than any of them.

Someone called another radio program last week, fantasizing that, rather than accepting Limbaugh's challenge, Obama would send Biden over instead.

Just imagine...
