American Conservatism

American conservatism is different. What are the core beliefs of American Conservatives?

Government has certain limited functions (keeping the peace, enforcing contracts, limiting fraud, defending the nation, enhancing commerce by reducing impediments) that should be strictly limited in order to minimize the damage that government operatives operating under the power of the state can do.

By that definition there are very few conservatives in America. There were proportionately a lot more when the nation was founded.

America has devolved into two main camps - the moral socialists and the economic socialists.

The "leave us alone" camp - the true American Conservatives - are not well represented.

Even the moral socialists are not well represented in the media which consists mainly of economic socialists.

So who are the American Conservatives in the media? John Stossel, and Penn and Teller.

Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. are in the moral socialist faction.

On the other hand, given the recent bout of bailout fever in Washington, it seems that the literal variety of conservatism, which can be defined as "a vested economic or emotional interest in preserving the status quo as completely as possible for as long as possible, come hell or high water", is, alas, still all too alive and well.

Seriously M. 'moral socialists, economic socialists, that's what we're going to face now, not before. Writing rules that will effectively curtail 'dissident speech' on the libertarian to right scale, including on the internet,to insure their information monopoly; prevent effective exercise of second amendment (remember who funded the opposition to Heller)restrict our ability to extract and develop energy, hamstring our military and intelligence services, by illegalizing what has worked in the last 7 years.

The Harrison act was 96 years ago, the Marijuana Act was 71 years ago. Stop with the bogeyman of the nonexistent Scudderesque
theocracy.

The post is near entirely a strawman of history. There was nothing "leave me alone" in American History, save for the people wanting the FEDERAL government not to interfere with what they wanted to do locally.
