The electorate will vote for anybody that promises to give them something. This is no way to run a democratic-republic.
The conservatives promise tax cuts, spending cuts, and less regulation. At least they should, but the republicans don't seem to understand this, or maybe they can't frame the argument properly.
The leftists promise cradle to grave care for the poor, taking money from the rich, and caring for the environment and healthcare by telling everybody what they can and cannot do. Of course the leftists can't frame their arguments like that so they use the children, and the aged and the handicapped to make their point.
So it is either leave us alone, or get into every nook and cranny of our lives.
Then there's the loudest part of all of this, the disinformation campaigns. "The republicans are going to starve your children, oldesters, and they are no better than Nazi's." Of course there is another side of the coin, "The democrats are pandering to the blacks, homosexuals, women, and the unions." Well the republicans can pander almost as well as any democrat.
In the end nothing will really change, if a democrat wins the Presidency, then the republicans will win the house and the senate in two years, and vice versa.

John,
I think you made my point.
The focus on candidates is spurious. It is the electorate that needs work.
What a smart comment! American citizens need to be responsible for ourselves and ensure our elected officials work together with the basic economics of supply and demand in there thinking. This will drive our economy which will drive our social responsibilities. America was built on conservative hard working values. Conservative is not a Republican or Democrat term. It is how our forefathers ran there lives and our country. People need to think for themselves. Good luck and God bless.
