Plan 9

In the discussion here Eric has a clip from one of the worst movies ever made. Well I took that as a challenge and present you with what is most likely the worst movie ever made. Any movie that describes a flying saucer as being shaped like a cigar has got to have some serious problems. So for your cultural edification may I present the best (worst) parts from Plan 9 From Outer Space. Roll the film.

A couple of observations:

Plan 9 from Outer Space is rated 3.5 out of ten 10 (12,703 votes) at imdb, while The Beast from Yucca Flats is rated only
2.5 out of 10 (1,879 votes).

I love both films, but consider Plan 9 to be high camp, while Beast is typical of the "radiation exploitation" trash film genre.

However, Plan 9 is more famous as a bad film.

So, in answer to the question of which is the best of the worst, it depends on what "best" and "worst" mean.

(And probably what "is" is.)

Cigar shaped UFOs -- flying saucers-- have a long history, going back to the 19th century at least (although they were not thought to be extra-terrestrial at the time) and also were prominent in the 1950s in the George Adamski books Flying Saucers Have Landed and Inside the Flying Saucers. I seem to recall that the cigar shaped ones were tourist ships from Jupiter and Saturn (which evidently had oxygen breathing human beings on themm) while the hubcap shaped ones were piloted by Jesus Christ clones. The Adamski hubcaps were later seen in the TV series The Invaders.
