LEAPing on McCain
Working New Hampshire police officer Bradley Jardis confronted Senator John McCain on November 25, 2007, at a Presidential Campaign stop at Franklin Pierce College in Ringe, New Hampshire, about Senator McCains's support for The War On Drugs. Here is the transcript: Bradley Jardis: I have served here in my state as a law enforcement officer for going on nine years now. And after nine years of working the street, I have come to the conclusion that the war on drugs is a terrible failure. I saw first hand that the war on drugs causes crime. It causes children to have access to drugs easier and it does nothing to curb the problem of drug trafficking or use--just as alcohol prohibition after the 18th amendment passed. Then we wised up and passed the 21st amendment, which curbed the violence problem within this country greatly. What is it going to take for powerful politicians, such as yourself, to realize that the war on drugs is a failure and we need to get smart about drugs? Not tough, we need to be smart about drugs.LEAP is asking for donations in order to keep confronting politicians with people they can't easily dismiss. Working police officers. McCain: "But I've heard your comparison between drugs and alcohol. I think most experts would say in moderation one or two drinks of alcohol does not have the affect on one's judgment or manual acuity or physical abilities. I think most experts will say that the first ingestion of drugs leads to mind-altering and other experiences and effects that can lead over time to serious problems." Mind-bogglingly incoherent -- especially from a man who has spent decades working on our national laws on the subject. Can we put this in the same category as evolution-denial? Totally different topic -- how could you possibly have a poll on the most gruesome forms of execution in ancient times and omit the one the ancient Romans themselves categorized as the worst, the one they reserved for parricides?? Clint · December 28, 2007 10:19 PM Andrew, Get your mind out of the gutter. LEAP stands for: Law M. Simon · December 29, 2007 12:13 AM The key to McCains stupidity was his statement about "drugs and alcohol" When someone says this , you can be sure they know next to nothing about drugs. Alcohol IS a drug, so the statement should have been Alcohol and OTHER drugs. Also the reason they had so much trouble in Europe is there were too many people and places there that they couldn't handle the volume within the places that served marijuana and hash, so if we make it legal here it would help because we wouldn't have to leave home. Leaping on McCain? Was that some sort of homo-erotic reference?
Then how about. "Save a bike, ride McCain!"
"I'm pro human rights, but I'm also pro human responsibilities too!"
