Rated V for Vanities
The 152nd Carnival of the Vanities has been posted by Will Franklin at WILLisms.com. Will has an original idea (at least I don't think I've seen it before) of actually rating each post. They're rated 0 through 10 -- something sure to displease bloggers who rated lower than a 10. Will explains the system: 0 = One of the most awful posts I have ever read.No one got a 10, although this post got a 0, which means it will probably be much read out of curiosity. (I agree that it was a poor post, but at least "Hypnyx" linked to this U.S. Army website. And in other posts, the same blogger praises Benjamin Netanyahu, and accuses Daily Kos of "mimicing the leaders of freeperville," so I think "Hypnyx's" brain has to rate higher than the Carnival post submitted.) There are three posts Will considers to be must-reads: I suggest that everyone check out the rest of the posts and the ratings. Any further analysis (such as whether the grades conformed to any "curve"), I'll have to leave to the experts. posted by Eric on 08.17.05 at 12:36 PM

The ratings seem fair. Many bloggers overuse carnivals, submitting something every week. They should be used sparingly. I've only submitted three posts to the Carnival of the Vanities, one to the Christian Carnival, and two to the Carnival of Comedy in all of the time that I've been blogging. John · August 18, 2005 08:58 AM Interesting idea that they should be used sparingly. I hadn't heard that before. Am I abusing the system by submitting posts? I thought I should support these carnivals -- especially newer ones like the RINO Sightings Carnival. (Actually, it would be a lot easier for me to avoid submitting posts, linking to them, etc.) Eric Scheie · August 18, 2005 10:24 AM Interesting articles. Obviously, we must keep the Politically Correct from desecrating our sports symbols. They hate sports anyway because sports inherently involve competition and inequality. Good explanation of why we are in Iraq -- to prevent the destruction of New York City and a draconian military regime in response. We must defeat the Terror Masters worldwide, not only in Iraq. We must fight Iran, Saudi Arabia, and subversive elements here at home. We must win this War. The very survival of America and Western civilization is at stake. Interesting division of the world into: 1) various non-ideological dictators in China, South America, etc., 2) totalitarian Islam, 3) a secularized, skeptical, socialistic Europe soon to succumb to totalitarian Islam, and 4) the last remnants of the old high culture of Europe, now concentrated mainly in the United States of America, "the last best hope of earth". Interesting idea. It's difficult for me to rate a post that way. Many of your posts get a 10 from me, which is why I keep reading you. One difficulty with rating posts on any blog is that the post itself may be only a 5, but the comment thread it generates may deserve a 10.
