The Dominoes Are Falling

Canada will be legalizing cannabis in 2017.

Health Minister Jane Philpott made the announcement during a special session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York regarding drug use and drug-related crime.

“We will introduce legislation in spring 2017 that ensures we keep marijuana out of the hands of children and profits out of the hands of criminals,” Philpott said.

Italy may be doing it sooner.

Laws on marijuana usage are changing and softening around the world.

After the success of legalization programmes in some American states, such as Colorado, many believe it is time for Italy to follow suit.

Studies have put the value of the illegal cannabis market at €30 billion a year – the majority of which ends up lining the pockets of organized crime groups.

It looks like there is a trend. And not only that. It looks like “organized crime” is common to Canada and Italy as reasons to end Prohibition.

And now to our Republican friends. For the life of me I don’t get why Republicans would support organized crime. I guess it is a traditional value. They did it in 1932. Even funnier – the party of learning from history so as to avoid repeating mistakes is unable to learn from the history of Alcohol Prohibition.

The only thing Trump said about Drugs in his acceptance speech was that he was going to keep the illegal ones from crossing the border. The only way to do that is legalize. Am I grasping at straws? More like trying to grab a handful of smoke.
