How Trump Might Destroy Drug Prohibition

Donald might say, “Drugs are bad for people. I don’t even drink alcohol. But we should do it the right way. We need to pass a Constitutional Amendment. Just like we did for Alcohol Prohibition.”

And that would be the end of it. Except for the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Does it work like this? Trump gets asked gothcha question on abortion, babbles incoherent but absurd answer about punishing women who have abortions or something. Cue shock and awe. Total Media Meltdown!. Trump did it again!!!! After the dust settles Trump has effectively exploded the issue; his ludicrous answer has shown just how ridiculous abortion fanatics sound on both sides. Meanwhile, Trump walks it all back to exactly where we are now, law of the land, leave it alone. Which is what I would expect from a man who is essentially a RINO.

And I realize, stylistics aside, he’s not the first NY politician to a) not give much of a shit about the big republican social issues, and b) be genuinely concerned about public safety / national security / prosperity etc. issues. Think Rudy Giuliani for a prototype. Maybe Ed Koch a little bit, Bill Weld[1] from Boston is similar. (I’m not claiming Trump would be effective at any of this, still undecided, will vote for him anyway just because)

[1] Weld was a tough federal prosecutor before going into politics. I heard an interview when he ran for his first term as governor where he was both for and against abortion. Really brilliant, off the cuff, evasive yet definite use of language, he got my vote on the spot. He went on the cut the state income tax and reduce welfare rolls. My kind of RINO.

    MMM,

That is how I figure him. Destroying the socon lock on GOP issues.

Except he wasn’t “babbling incoherent”. I have used that abortion argument many times on the ‘net.

    Logic kills emotion. Sometimes.

“Abortion is murder.” Well. OK. Now if that is true….

I wonder if Trump came up with that on his own or if he had found one of my discussions on the ‘net.

I don’t recall seeing anyone else using that particular train of logic.
