Never do business with a religious son-of-a-bitch. His word ain’t worth a shit — not with the Good Lord telling him how to fuck you on the deal.” – William S. Burroughs

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. Their very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be ‘cured’ against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals. – CS Lewis

Trump seems to me more of a robber baron than a True Believer. He also seems to have a tad of noblesse oblige.

There are other cases but those are two that I remember.

Who gave us Alcohol Prohibition? Progressives in cahoots with “Christians”. Same for Drug Prohibition.

Which is why I don’t trust Christians or Progressives.

Old Testament Christians (yeah it should be an oxymoron) are the worst.

“Distrust anyone in whom the desire to punish is powerful” — Friedrich Nietzsche

Ted seems to have a LOT of friends in the “punishment sects”.

How better to get punishment organized than to make it a government program?

There’s a lot to be said in favor of the old-style, Plunkett of Tamany Hall honest corruption. They stayed bought, and they delivered the goods for their constituents.

Like Mayor Curley of Boston, reelected from his jail cell, built Boston City Hospital. You could always rely on your local ward heeler to fix a parking ticket, help your son get a job with the water department, get your welfare payments approved, all the benefits of civilization.

These religious whack jobs that Cruz hangs out with really creep me out. I’m starting to think Cruz really means it. It’s one thing for a Republican candidate to pander to the snake-handling, creationism and stone the fags wing of the party, Reagan was masterful at it, it’s another thing entirely for one to be sincere.

Given the record of atheists in international politics in the last century, I am not going to get on my high horse to denounce politicians who profess a religion.

Disclosure: I have never been a churchgoer.
