“he did it in the name of Islam”

At least, that’s what he said:

Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer is recovering after he was shot several times during an ambush late Thursday night in West Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police commissioner Richard Ross says the officer was sitting in his patrol car around 11:30 p.m. at 60th and Spruce Streets when a gunman fired 11 shots through the driver’s side of the car.

Police are calling it an “attempted assassination.”

In a press conference, Commissioner Ross said the gun used in the attack was a stolen police firearm.

“It was stolen back in October of 2013. It was reported, and that is one of the things you regret the most when an officer’s gun is stolen, when it is used against one of your own.”

The officer, 33-year-old Jesse Hartnett, was struck several times, authorities say.

“Shots fired! I’m shot! I’m bleeding heavily!” Hartnett can be heard yelling on police radio.

Commissioner Ross says the suspect has given a full confession, saying he did it in the name of Islam.

“According to him, police bend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Quran.”

I’m sure the latter is a truthful statement of the man’s opinion. I’m also sure that it could be argued that “police bend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Bible.” Or Jesus. Or Buddha.

What I want to know is whether killing someone for religious reasons is either terrorism or a hate crime.

Any thoughts?

The reason I’m asking is that the DA seems to think the primary problem is guns:

District Attorney Seth Williams says “I’m very thankful the officer is alive. This shows us the need for smarter laws when it relates to guns on the street. My office is going to do all that we can to ensure the defendant is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

Got that? The thug has a gun stolen from a cop, uses it to fire 13 bullets at a cop for violating the Koran, and this means we need more gun laws?

What’s the thinking here? The more laws violated, the more laws we need?

He was shot with a Police gun. Obviously the police need to be disarmed.

A New Republic writer named Phoebe Maltz Bovy advocates disarming police. Because, you know:

It’s absurd to reduce an anti-gun position to a snooty aesthetic preference…It’s about placing gun ownership itself in the “bad” category. It’s worth adding that the anti-gun position is ultimately about police not carrying guns, either. That could never happen, right? Well, certainly not if we keep on insisting on its impossibility.

Disarming the police would free up enough money to provide free candy for everyone.

The faith the Left puts into the efficacy of gun control laws is no different than the faith believers have in the existence their gods. The faith both display in their beliefs is all but impervious to evidence to the contrary and as result, both beliefs die hard.

This is why the Left continues to tout more gun controls as the answer to any and all violence despite no real evidence that it works. It’s an article of faith on the Left that more controls are the answer. The fact that the additional controls they propose would not have prevented the violence they cite is of no concern to them. They Left just “knows” that more controls will work.

And Lefties like to think of themselves as the “reality based community”. HA! What sad, tragic joke.

What makes the modern left “reality” based is what they think “reality” is. To the left there is no one reality, reality is what one wants it to be. They are hyper-subjectivists, bordering on solipsists. As Paul Krassner put it, “reality is silly putty” or Robert Anton Wilson called it, “reality tunnels”. The left is reality based only as far as their reality is indistinguishable from fever dreams.

What is it with lefties like Bernie and the Captain being enamored with tiny places where everyone is white? I mean, I can see why Bernie would be enamored with tiny, really white places because he’s from Vermont, the whitest state in the Union. Vermont is even whiter than Australia if you can believe that.

Interestingly, lily-white Vermont also has the loosest gun control laws in the Union while simultaneously having the lowest gun murder rate.

Weird, huh? Vermont must be racist. Has to be. I just can’t figure out how. Also frustrating it not being able to use the letters “KKK” in the state name. Very frustrating. Where’s my free candy, dammit?! You promised free candy if I gave up my gun!
