What Is It About Saudi Arabia?

San Bernardino shooting suspect traveled to Saudi Arabia.

Co-workers told The Times they were shocked to hear Farook’s name linked to the shooting. Two who were in the restroom when the bullets began to fly said he was quiet and polite, with no obvious grudges.

Well maybe he didn’t like non-believers?

They said Farook recently traveled to Saudi Arabia and returned with a new wife he had met online. The couple had a baby and appeared to be “living the American dream,” said Patrick Baccari, a fellow health inspector who shared a cubicle with Farook.

Baccari and Christian Nwadike said Farook, who worked with them for several years, rarely started a conversation. But the tall, thin young man with a full beard was well liked and spent much of his time out in the field.

They and other colleagues said Farook was a devout Muslim, but rarely discussed religion at work.

“He never struck me as a fanatic, he never struck me as suspicious,” said Griselda Reisinger, who worked with Farook before leaving the agency in May.

It is always the quiet ones. OTOH maybe it is not Europe First.

In the wake of this and other shootings Hillary Clinton plans to run against guns.

Clinton happened to be speaking about the need for gun control at a campaign stop in Florida just as the attack was unfolding, per ABC News’ Liz Kreutz. In a tweet, Kreutz quoted Clinton as saying that “90 americans a day die from gun violence, homicide, suicides, tragic avoidable accidents. 33 thousand Americans a year die. It is time for us to say we are going to have comprehensive background checks, we are gonna close the gun show loopholes.”

I guess she forgot about the trouble her husband Bill had with gun control.

Some Democratic leaders believed that gun control measures like the assault weapons ban, signed into law by President Bill Clinton, helped Republicans gain control of Congress. When the ban expired a decade later, Democrats tried to extend it didn’t fight as hard as one might expect. It lapsed.

Many Democrats also thought the primary campaign against Bill Bradley pushed 2000 presidential nominee Al Gore too far to the left on guns. The stance cost Gore Arkansas, West Virginia and his home state of Tennessee. If he had carried any one of those states, he would have won the presidency even without Florida’s hanging chads. Former Gore national spokesman Doug Hattaway went so far as to say “there’s not a potent pro-gun control constituency in national elections.”

Despite all the mass shootings in the news, gun “control” is not gaining political ground.

Maybe Hillary is trying to lose the election. Heavens knows the Republicans are making a serious effort in that direction.

Evidently Hillary is not keeping up with the news. Black Friday breaks record with 185K gun background checks. And then there is: gun deaths have been declining for 20 years.

The American Dream and the Islamic Dream are two completely different and incompatible things. Politicians and news readers will spend all day denying it – and few will believe them.

Apparently, they’re scared of widows and orphans coming into the United States of America as part of our tradition of compassion.

when guns are outlawed their will be less gun violence though black people need guns to shoot back at racism so hopefully we will soon end most racism so guns can be banned.

how about san bernadino? arrest n.r.a. leadership and gun nuts in congress now.

Yup, that’ll solve the problem. Methinks our friend from Arizona is trying out some schtick for a comedy club act. Certainly couldn’t laugh any harder at a comedy club than at what captain*arizona writes.

Refer to my previousClassical Values Comment w Links

Re gun ownership and homicide, refer to my comment at Guns & Homicide, Map Form.

I prefer calculations to maps. I correlated gun ownership per capita and murder rate for 174 countries. There was a small negative correlation: -0.155.

Not exactly evidence for less guns means more murder, is it?

Recall from a previous comment in that thread that whites are approximately twice as likely to own guns as blacks, but the murder offender rate for blacks is about 8 times the murder offender rate for whites.

And ~90% of black murder victims are killed by blacks, so you can’t blame whites for black murders.

Less guns means less murder. As they say in Venezuela, tell me another cowboy tale. In the US, tell me another fish tale.

gringo how many gun deaths in australia?

250 murders annually in Australia. I see no point in distinguishing between firearms deaths and murders. Death is Death. Overall murder rates: Australia 1.1, US 3.8/100,000. US murder rate was over twice as high two decades ago.
Here is a partial list of rankings of countries by Gun Ownership and Murder Rate.
    nation Gun Rank Murder Rank
    United States 1 121
    Serbia 2 184
    Yemen 3 108
    Switzerland 4 210
    Cyprus 5 159
    Saudi Arabia 6 199
    Iraq 7 79
    Uruguay 8 81
    Sweden 9 206
    Norway 10 156
    France 11 190
    Canada 12 174
    Austria 13 196
    Iceland 14 215
    Germany 15 203
    Finland 16 170
    Oman 17 185
    Bahrain 18 211
    Kuwait 19 212
    Montenegro 21 147
    New Zealand 22 198
    Greece 23 168
    United Arab Emirates 24 149
    Croatia 25 182
    Australia 26 187
    Honduras 87 1

So much for more guns, more murders. If you run a correlation for the 38 countries of Europe for which there are data for both murder rates and gun ownership, you get a correlation of -.31925.

At least I answer your questions. As I pointed out in a previous thread, you often have a tendency to not answer mine.

The al Sauds were a tribe of desert bandits who practiced a version of Islam so strict they could use non-adherence as an excuse for attacking other Moslems.

Brits have some sort of romantic attachment to desert shaykhs for some reason. After WW1 they adopted the al Sauds and made them protectors of Mecca, kings of Saudi Arabia. So far, just a bunch of camel-humping rag heads running around in the sand. Add $billions of oil money and Habib’s your uncle. Terrorism is their major export. Better than keeping it at home…
