Surreal

I’ve been watching the Democratic candidates’ debate on an obscure channel, on a Saturday night, in a debate that they surely thought few would watch.

In a complete turnaround from previous debates, now they are debating what to do about terrorism.

Jihadists!”

They actually used that word.

Artillery Hillary is doing her best to sound like a Republican on this issue.

Utterly, almost bizarrely, surreal. What a difference a day makes.

I watched it too, just the first part covering the Paris attacks and foreign policy issues. I was shocked to hear both Hillary and O’Malley use the term “jihadists.” I was even more shocked to hear Sanders say “The Cold War is over. And our focus has got to be on intelligence, increased manpower, and fighting international terrorism.”

A horrific Islamo-terrorist attack and suddenly the 2016 Dem’s are hawks.

If somebody could point me to some major differences between Hillary and the rest of the Republican field’s approach (aside from taking the oil fields) to tackling ISIS, that would be great.

That’s the thing, Mr. AJ, we don’t need their oil anymore. Europe definitely does, the US emphatically does not.

For that matter look up partitioning of the Ottoman Empire. World power navies were converting from coal to oil at the time. The US had their own oil fields in Texas and Pennsylvania. Britain and France had none, so they carved up the oil rich Ottoman Emprire to secure a source of oil. Wilson was against it, which pissed off the Brit’s and France:

A free, open-minded, and absolutely impartial adjustment of all colonial claims, based upon a strict observance of the principle that in determining all such questions of sovereignty the interests of the populations concerned must have equal weight with the equitable government whose title is to be determined.
    Pres. Woodrow WilsonFourteen Points

The breakup and colonization of the Ottoman Empire truly was blood for oil. And it bit France on the ass Friday night.

Cankles will say anything she thinks the audience wants to hear.

What a fine example of word wooze. It just drones on making soothing, anodyne motherhood statements with no executables. How does this angelic arrangement of world events happen, exactly?

As Jerry Pournelle says, “let the Arabs drink their oil”. He also goes on to point out that if we had put as much money and effort into developing our own energy resources instead of fighting continuous wars in the middle east we would be vastly better off. Probably wouldn’t have taken nearly as much money, and no blood. Meanwhile, the international price of oil collapses, and the funds for jihad dry up.

And the inbred, useless camel humpers can ride off into the desert where they came from.

M.Simon often mentions this Trotsky quote:
You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.

Hillary and Sanders woke up to that fact overnight. Unless there is another terror attack soon, it will be brushed aside just as the Boston Bombing is now all but forgotten.

Personally, I’m expecting something much larger and in this country. The past 14 years has lulled us into complacency. Also, it most likely will not be ISIS, but Iran.

major terrorist attack in america is unlikely as obama now and hillary 2016 don’t need a second pearl harbor like bush did. so they won’t be telling the fbi or the cia to not do their job as bush did.

MMM, yeah, Wilson had no leverage over the UK after that war. Roosevelt made sure he got a deal up front in the next war:

I can’t believe that we can fight a war against fascist slavery, and at the same time not work to free people all over the world from a backward colonial policy? The peace cannot include any continued despotism…
    Pres. Franklin Roosevelt, 1941

British colonial policy was the best thing that ever happened to the people in most of those colonies.

Read Jonah Goldberg’s book Liberal Fascism if you want to know what Wilson was about. Besides being a long-winded jerk. Personal note, my grandfather was arrested by Wilson’s goon squads for being anti war.

This statement vs Wilson’s: If you Brits and Frogs carve up the Ottoman Empire for your own purposes I’m sending in the Marines.
    Compare and contrast.

And Frankie, It’s because fascist slavery is mucho worse than Brit colonial policy. Eopold II gave colonialism a bad name.

Meanwhile, you might not be interested in jihad, but jihad is interested in you.

    Eric… of course they are.

    Leftists always lie.

    Leftists always triangulate.

    Leftists always double down.

Leftists always forget what they said while striving to get into power once they’ve achieved it, which takes us back to: “Leftists always lie.”

Kinda like: “I have no interest in taking your guns away, (Well, at least not until the next time I change faces).”

They’re just doing what Dems *do* when they see the leash on power slipping away from between their fingers: panicking an flinging shit against the wall to see if it’ll stick to the electorate.

And if by some chance they manage to swing it into a Hillary or Bernie in the Oval Orifice win, expect to see a sudden return to the Death of Western Civilization show, sponsored by the Democrats – already in progress. Move along, citizens. Nothing to see here.

Man. You and I have *both* been watching and commenting on this phenomenon, often from this very blog of yours, since two-thousand-and-fucking-three, guy.

Only a fool would be fooled by the Hill and Bernie Show’s sudden conversion to Hawkdom in the immediate aftermath of Paris – and I freaking *know* that you’re not a fool.

Seriously. The f*ck? First Simon is murdering ones and zeroes wondering if PTSD causes terrorism, and now you’re shocked that all of the Dems are scrambling for a position that hopefully won’t allow them to be, ahem, Trumped on the Paris/Europe/ISIS issue?

The only thing that would be surreal and amazing to me is if they *hadn’t* mutated to sound like Republicans on this in the wake of Paris – at least the ones currently running for office.

*grin* Get a grip, old friend. This is only November – we got a long year with a lot of ups and downs, spills and chills, and shocking swerves ahead of us between now and next November. Expect to see dogs and cats living together and an apocalypse of Biblical (Biblical, I say!) proportions before the elections as the world turns inside out and Europe slowly dissolves into flames and chaos over there on national TeeBee.

I expect that they’ll be triangulating even more frantically as Europe takes a hard nationalist swerve and Trump, Carson, and Cruz climb ever higher in electoral popularity.

Dems gotta Dem, as surely as Europeans gonna Europe.

Agreed. But it wasn’t just the British who colonized the Ottoman Empire. France’s colonies fared quite a bit worse than Britain’s. See Algeria, Cambodia, Syria, and Vietnam.
