Results Oriented

From Lionell Griffith:

… if you keep doing the same thing and keep getting results contrary to your spoken objective, your real objective is the results you get.

Ha! Your post from that thread:

“The Maker help us if we move on from post normal science to post normal engineering.”
When I went to school, every engineering student was shown the video of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (hopefully they still do that, or something similar). I think that every biology student needs to be shown videos of the obesity epidemic caused by the USDA and AHA nutritional guidelines, every social scientist and psychologist needs to be shown the crime victims and homeless epidemic caused by the anti-asylum movement, etc., etc.,…

It’s not just engineers whose mistakes are capable of destructive effect.

    I’ll add this:

It’s not just engineers whose mistakes are capable of destructive effect, the only difference is that the consequences of engineering mistakes tend to be more immediate and more easily traced back to the responsible party.

There is a vulgar old joke with the punchline that is appropriate:

“And the bear said, ‘You don’t come here to hunt at all, do you?’”
