With something like 60 to 80% of the population in favor of medical marijuana, Texas Republicans have decided to strike that issue from their party platform.
Supporters of medical marijuana made emotional statements arguing that patients suffering from certain diseases could benefit from the treatment. Opponents maintained that legalizing marijuana for medical use would lead to legalization for recreational use.
Delegates also voted to remove language urging the legislature to study the use of cannabis for medical purposes.
There is pretty good evidence that medical cannabis can cure caner. And the Republicans don’t want to even mention it? Anti-hippie sentiment must be very strong in those parts.

What the Republicans are doing has passed well beyond stupid and gone quite far into evil. They claim to be doing it for the greater good. To me it seems like they are doing it for the greater gulag.

Medical Marijuana prohibition is a crime against humanity and a violation of the religious precept – heal the sick.

Don’t know if it’s anti-hippie so much as those with a strong fundamentalist bent seem to be anti-feel-good ( at least the ones I’ve met ). Apparently feeling good takes your mind off Jeeezuhs.
