At least there are just desserts

M. Simon emailed me a link about a wonderful new technology I’d read about before, which is, simply, PRINTING A HOUSE.

When I was a kid, they painted houses; now they print them, which is wonderful. The savings are dramatic in the extreme, but as Simon warns,

The real problem with housing is not structure. It is the utilities.

Yes, indeed the problem does involves the so-called “utilities.” Things that were once considered modern “services” have become not only a government racket, but a way of preventing people by force of arms from living where they want, by making not having these so called “utilities” a crime.

I’d say UTILITIES=FASCISM but I hate to sound like an extremist, so I will change the subject a bit, to another kind of printing.

No, not guns (we all know you can print a gun), but desserts!

3D Systems unveiled two 3-D printers of edible sugar and chocolate recently at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The ChefJet, which can print single colors, and the full-color ChefJet Pro are expected to be available in the second half. The ChefJet is expected to price below $5,000, while the ChefJet Pro is expected below $10,000.

The spokesman said the ChefJet and ChefJet Pro, which are based on its ColorJet technology, are for professional use in high-end bakeries, cake shops and for special events. The company has a “Digital Cookbook” to help customers design and make products with various flavors and recipes.

“We fully intend for this to come to the consumer as well,” he said.

The company is currently working on the development of flavors—including chocolate. The 3-D printer can print complex geometries and a wide range of sizes up to 8 inches by 10 inches by 14 inches and prints at an inch an hour.

Not bad. High capacity desserts can be printed as effectively as high capacity magazines and receivers.

Or houses.

So what are the damn control freaks gonna do about it? They can only go so far before they get their just desserts.
