Surreal as it may seem, thanks to M. Simon I have just learned that New York Governor Cuomo — yes, the same Governor Cuomo who wants to destroy what remains of the Second Amendment in New York — now wants to liberalize marijuana laws.
To a libertarian like me, this is obviously a mixed message.
And on top of that, I now see a new headline that New York’s blessed billionaire Mayor Bloomberg (known mainly for being a gun-grabbing “Republican”), wants to grab pain meds from patients in New York hospitals.
New York City to Restrict Prescription Painkillers in Public Hospitals’ Emergency Rooms
Silly me! I’d have thought that Emergency Rooms are where painkillers would be most needed.
But I guess our leaders know what is best for us.
(If only they could figure out what to grab from whom, and in what order!)

Thanks!
I did think the juxtaposition of my piece and this one

was quite ironic.
I think that legalization of pot is the Next Big Thing for dems. Expect them to pull that trigger in the runup to 2014 so they can turn out the young, libertarians and lo info types to reinstall Pelosi in the House as Speaker. Leahy and Begich have mentioned it. Cuomo, who is running for President has mentioned it.
Pub reaction ought to be to shove everything back to the states to decide and leave the feds to control the borders and regulate interstate commerce, thereby shutting down the War on Drugs and demilitarizing federal law enforcement. Cheers –
Unfortunately, from what I’ve seen, Pub reactions is likely to be “BAN IT, BAN IT”.
Sigh.
Time to go back to voting libertarian – and losing.
Not so sure about that. Given the Pub’s strength at the state level, I would expect the states to step up and want to be in charge as a way to slap at the states. We have more than a little interest here in AK. National Pubs not so much. The states will lead this one I think. Cheers-
Maybe we should thank Mike Bloomberg for helping to discredit state-run medicine.
