The Democrats Have A Comeback Plan

Not for this election that is for sure. But one down the road. Maybe not too far down the road. Montana gives a big hint about the future. It is all about the efforts of Republicans in Montana to gut the state’s medical marijuana law passed by referendum.

Patients for Reform Not Repeal’s campaign committee consists of Lori Burnam, an elderly cancer patient in Hamilton; Sarah Baugh, an epilepsy patient in Helena; and Dr. Edwin Stickney of Billings, past president of the Montana Medical Association and past president of the Montana chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

“I desperately urge Montanans to vote NO on IR-124 and to reject SB 423,” says Lori Burnam, “because it is causing great and unnecessary suffering for patients across the state like me. One example of the ‘bat crap crazy’ nature of this extreme law is the fact that it literally provides no legal way for any patient or provider to obtain seeds or plants. It wasn’t intended to work, and it makes criminals of the very patients that voters sought to help. It overturns the intent of voters,” Burnam says.

This is not a national issue this year. But given the upcoming vote in Colorado and more states legalizing med pot it may be a national issue in 2016, certainly by 2020. Which will probably leave Republicans visible only in hindsight. Thus does Moral Socialism beget Economic Socialism. You would think if you looked at the situation objectively that it was a plot. That might be confirmed if you remember that the Moral Socialists and the Economic Socialists were united at one time under the Progressive banner.

Back here in New Hampshire, a Republican legislature passed a medical marijuana law, two years running, only to have the Democratic governor veto it, two years running.
Adult Republicans are not fond of weed, but they like the cops hassling their teenagers over it even less.

    David,

Things are quite unsettled. What I wanted to highlight was the possibilities. You are well aware that prediction is quite difficult – especially about the future.

Interesting that the consensus is currently not bipartisan almost anywhere despite >70% favoring medical use and >50% into full legalization.

That is why I only predict the past. I’m never wrong that way.
