A hell of a way to win an election

I’ve been reading angry conservative reactions like this to a gaffe by the Romney campaign which appeared to claim that Massachusetts health care would have helped a worker cited by an Obama campaign ad:

Defending Romney and combatting the ad, Romney spokesman Andrea Saul . . . let’s go to the quotes

“To that point, if people had been in Massachusetts, under Governor Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care,” Andrea Saul, Romney’s campaign press secretary, said during an appearance on Fox News. “There are a lot of people losing their jobs and losing their health care in President [Barack] Obama’s economy.”

Conservatives have put aside their distrust of Romney on this issue in the name of beating Barack Obama. They thought he and his campaign team had gotten the message and the hints. Consider the scab picked, the wound opened, and the distrust trickling out again.

About the only thing more stupid in terms of building bridges with the right would be to say something nice about fetal stem cell research.

Start your watches for that one!

Hey, I’m feeling left out as a libertarian! I’m incredibly pissed that Romney not only endorses the drug war, but like Obama, he is against even medical marijuana. So how come libertarian Rs don’t have just as much right to throw down the gauntlet on the drug war as the social conservatives do on stem cell research?

I’m used to seeing the libertarian perspective ignored, and libertarian concerns shunted aside. Sometimes I wonder whether conservatives think they’re the only people whose opinions matter.

They do realize that Romney will have to win over the independent vote if he is to have any chance of winning, don’t they? Or are independents the enemy too?

The government has become so dysfunctional that every one is the enemy.

It was my hope that all this could be settled peacefully with a nod (a hand shake would be too much to ask for) and a “no hard feelings”.

    It doesn’t look that way.

    And thanks!

    I liked this comment:

    Romney: Primary = tiger, General = Nancy-boy.

    Thanks for the boobies.

When I first read of this, my heart sank. It’s sad that our nominee cannot parse the difference in reliance on the individual versus reliance on government.

    If I had my druthers…

Ban medical marijuana testing on fetal stem cells. Piss off everyone.

    LOL @ Man Mountain.

But, yeah. We are the enemy of both sides. The enemy they need, and hate even more for that.
