Ignoring Morality and The Moralists

Mead is discussing the breakdown of morality in the public and private sector. The fish rots from the head. That aside aside a commenter said:

We need to stop championing single motherhood, the leading contributor to poverty, as a life-style choice.

Ending Drug Prohibition and its exorbitant incarcerations would go a long way towards solving that problem. But our moralists refuse.

It is not just those ignoring morality that are causing our problems. A lot of our problems can be laid at the feet of those who shout morality from the roof tops.

We used to understand the difference between vice and crime. We used to understand that vice – while not a good thing – was not a threat to society. Now that we treat them the same way (want a 32 oz soda in NYC ?) crime has become merely a vice.

We saw the same kind of breakdown during Alcohol Prohibition. Evidently we have to relearn these lessons every 80 years or so.

There is injustice in the land. It’s all over the place. The WOD is just one of many injustices that have been laid upon the people these last several decades. And when you have injustice you have the terrible social results we’ve witnessed these last several decades.

Things will not improve until justice is brought back to the land. A good place to start is ending the WOD, which is really a war on people.

We need to educate the advice columnists – seriously. I do the newspaper (yes, my parents – for whom I am now caring – get the PAPER paper) puzzles in the morning. And the advice columnists are in the same section. Let a writer even MENTION pot and they are advising divorce on grounds of drug addiction (scuse me, pot’s not addictive – we can argue damage -less, overall than alcohol (let’s not go there again either), but it’s NOT addictive).

Sigh. Media needs education. (Though I’ll say this, these ladies are seriously anti-everything – mention ‘beers’ and they’re right up there with al-anon recommedations.)
