Duke lacrosse redux? Yep. And we’ll see if there’s a Nifong to go along with it.
The media and the black community loved that story because it allowed the black community to live out their overarching fantasy, that all the world is against them because they are black. They felt vindicated.
The fact that, like the Tawana story, the Duke
story wasn’t true either, made no difference.
As Evan Thomas of Newsweek said, “we got the facts wrong, but the narrative was right.”
As for the Justice Dept., despite pleadings from the Duke students for the FBI to do an independent investigation, the FBI wouldn’t get involved. (So Nifong had a free hand, arresting witnesses, using lies to get warrants, working with crony judges, etc.) The Justice Dept. didn’t care.
With Traynor, the Justice Dept. is already running a “parallel investigation”. The president has commented. That’s called “equal protection of the laws–NOT.”
