The freer we are, the more blood we have on our hands

Death sucks, and I know what it is like to lose people I love.

However, I am getting a more than a little tired of angry grieving mothers who blame other people for the regrettable, stupid, and even fatal actions of their kids.

The latest example is a mother whose son smoked synthetic marijuana, then drove his car at 100 m.p.h. and fatally crashed into a house. (Something he could just as easily have accomplished with booze, but never mind that.)

And who is responsible? Why, Rand Paul. Because he failed to vote for another lamebrain law which would criminalize the substance the grieving mom’s son idiotically smoked before his rampage.

Yes, Ron Paul has “blood on his hands.”

In June 2011, Karen Dobner’s son Max smoked synthetic marijuana, had an anxiety attack of some kind, then got into his car, drove it at 100 miles per hour before crashing and dying having “destroyed a suburban home, the car lodged inside a baby’s empty bedroom.”

Dobner is now on a one-woman crusade to make Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) pay. See, as Jacob Sullum noted in February, Paul is the guy blocking the Senate vote to have the Drug Enforcement Administration reclassify synthetic marijuana and other synthetic drugs as schedule 1. He’s the one, Dobner believes as paraphrased by the Daily News, who is “putting his libertarian principles before the lives of young people.”

He also ignored 15 phone calls from Dobner in which she pleaded for him to pass the bill. Ergo, “He has blood on his hands.”

Imagine how much blood the Seagrams Distillery has on its hands. Or Anheuser Busch. Or all those politicians who voted to get rid of Prohibition, which of course completely protected everyone from booze.

Freedom can be dangerous.

Don’t worry, Politicians, Pharmaceutical and Insurance companies are working even now on replacing that dangerous Freedom with FDA and AMA approved, Physician prescribed,Insurance mandate covered,U.S.manufactured,Union labeled, medications. These won’t actually stop or even curb drug abuse or drug related crimes but then Utopias aren’t built in a decade, …or two, …or seven.

There’s a lot of whininess out there, all right. This is like allowing people to sue the government for injuries they acquired as a result of their own voluntary interactions with the government, like fleeing the police.

Of course this mom is never going to see that if anyone has blood on their hands it’s her son, or even her for having raised him that way (to whatever extent nurture led him to that point, rather than nature). And that it’s a damn good thing her son didn’t kill anyone in the house.

Clearly the person who blocked the law making it illegal to drive 100MPH also has blood on his hands.

    Oh wait.

Her real beef is with Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, who synthesized the stuff. BTW the natural stuff is safer because you can titrate – adjust the dose to current need. The woman should be arguing laxer laws for pot. If she was rational and had studied the subject.

Besides. Just tell her “nature’s way” is better. (in keeping with http://classicalvalues.com/2012/03/invaders-are-taking-over-our-land/ )
