Corrupting Every Level Of Government

A member of the Drug Policy Forum of Texas list sent me a link to a short book by Catherine Austin Fitts which I subtitle How The Drug War is Corrupting America. There is an interesting chapter on how people at HUD engineered the mortgage collapse which we covered here at length from a different perspective when the story was hot.

You might also like to go back and read Why We Must Not End Prohibition which links to “Narco Dollars” also by C.A. Fitts.

If you have been around here for a while you have seen this video. I want to specifically point out what Mr. Fogg said in about minutes 1 to 3 of the video. The punch line is “…and there goes your overtime”.

Which brings me to this little gem: Why Can’t You Smoke Pot? Because Lobbyists Are Getting Rich Off of the War on Drugs. A little excerpt to show you just how bad it has become.

Of course, police unions aren’t the only interest group with a stake in maintaining broken drug laws. The beer industry, alcohol corporations, and prison guard unions also contributed money to help Lovell stop Prop 19. Howard Wooldridge, a retired police officer who now helps push for legalization as a citizen advocate, told Republic Report that drug company lobbyists also fight to keep marijuana illegal because they view pot as a low-cost form of competition.

I have no problem with people profiting from other’s misery. It is what doctors do. Where I draw the line is profiting by causing other people’s misery. Which is covered in Chapter 17. Here is an excerpt.

So, let’s say I am a customer of a private bank such as Coutts. Let’s say through Coutts I have an interest in an offshore fund with private prison investments. The more people who are rounded up and put into prison, the more valuable my investment becomes. If laws are passed for mandatory sentences, the more valuable my investment becomes. If politicians and political appointees push through more prison contracts for private companies, the more valuable my investments become. The more enforcement staff and arrests, the more valuable my investments become yet again.

We have some very unsavory characters running America. And all too many Americas supporting them because Drugs are bad. M’kay? I got some news for those types. A government run by criminals is worse.

There is a way out (link forwarded to me by Eric). Ten Years After Decriminalization, Drug Abuse Down by Half in Portugal.

BTW this all ties in with what Andrew Breitbart had to say in a video at There Is A Plan For America. Except Andrew is only looking at the Left. The Right is in on the process too. Follow the money. Which Catherine does.

  1. […] and crimes of violence prison makes sense. But for dealing weed and other drugs? Whites do it at about the same rate according to the video at the link. But blacks are about 7 times as likely to wind up in prison. […]
