You Can’t Make This Stuff Up

Vanderleun has the story:

The Green Gym will be the first of its kind. Nowhere else in the country have such innovations been implemented for the benefit of homeless citizens. In addition to standard fitness equipment such as two weight machines, boxing bags, and a treadmill, 10 Green Revolution Technology enabled stationary bikes will generate electricity to be redirected into Cass’ power grid. Over one year of four daily classes, a full class of 10 at the Green Gym can generate enough power to light 36 homes for a month, or three homes for a year!

So 40 people exercising for what?, one hour or two hours a day can support 3 houses. So if we can get 13 people living in each house (one will have to rotate), they will be self sufficient in electricity.

Well they are Green Jobs. Let us run the numbers. The US Department of Energy says the average US home use 908 KWh per month. Let us be extremely generous and say that electricity is worth 25¢ a KWh. That is $227 worth of electricity per month. Made by 13 1/3 people. That is about $17.03 per month per person in electrical production. A little over 50¢ a day.

Green Jobs!
