On “freaked out white men”

That’s the latest insult being hurled at the Tea Party.

Dr. Helen points out something that anyone familiar with the Tea Party phenomenon knows quite well.

the face of the Tea Party is female:

Many of the tea party’s most influential grass-roots and national leaders are women, and a new poll released this week by Quinnipiac University suggests that women might make up a majority of the movement as well.

That is absolutely true. In a comment I left to M. Simon’s post the other day, I explained why:

Women hate having their earnings stolen by the state even more than men. It’s taking the bread from the mouths of kids. Hence the heavily-female Tea Party.

Getting women to hate men is simply a divide-and-conquer statist con game. Women are wising up.

None of this is to say that there aren’t men in the Tea Party movement. Of course there are. But to call them “freaked out white men” strikes me as highly inaccurate.

I happen to be a longtime fan of the Grateful Dead who attended at least a hundred* of their concerts, so I am quite familiar with what freaked out white men actually look like.

I hate to sound like a killjoy, and I don’t mean to judge anyone, but the above simply does not typify the Tea Party crowd.

I make this observation sincerely as both a deadhead and a Tea Party supporter.

Phew. (It could have been worse. At least I didn’t have to scour the net for pictures of genuine tea baggers….)

* While technically true, “at least a hundred” is probably a major understatement.
