I’d like to ask Newt a question:
“Do you support drug prohibition because it finances criminals at home, or because it finances terrorists abroad?”
Prompted by Eric’s Rudeness can create a “nice” backlash.

That is a perfectly legitimate policy question. Nothing rude about it!
Now, if you had tied it into the 500,000 jewelry bill, that might be another matter.

He supports the war on drugs because drugs destroy people’s lives.
The fallout of predicted and predictable side effects doesn’t bother him.
Ummm, and “have you stopped beating your wife.” Sorry – but that sort of question just doesn’t make it. (See rhhardin’s answer above.)
The point we need to be making is that drugs may destroy some peoples lives, but that the WAR on drugs destroys more people’s lives (including most of those in the first category). Or, to put it more bluntly: “We lost. Find another way to discourage drug abuse.”
I have a different take. Drugs help people. They are good for the people taking them vs the symptoms of PTSD (which is IMO the cause of most drug use).
Pot is safer and less harmful than alcohol for PTSD. In fact other than pot there is no drug that that is really useful for PTSD. Which reminds me. I need to write an article about that. Some new studies are being done.
Let me amend that. Heroin also seems useful for the most extreme cases of PTSD.

I would only add, or because it finances a police state at home…
